Plant Genomics Outreach Modules

High School Level

Genomics and Agriculture:

As part of our Rice Genome Annotation project, we have developed a laboratory module for high school classrooms to examine Agricultural Genomics. The focus of the activity is the cereals, a major component of agriculture and daily life. In this module, students learn fundamentals about agriculture and in particular the cereals, a major food source for the world. There are several lab activities including growth and characterization of cereal plants, DNA isolation, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), and running and interpreting agarose gel electrophoresis.

Lectures on Plant Genome Annotation Methods

These lectures are part of a week long workshop held at TIGR as part of the Rice Genome Annotation project. They cover genome sequence, assembly and annotation, including structural and functional annotation.
